Keohan, Tilley lead TA boys over Windham
SACO — Sophomore David Keohan led four Golden Trojans scoring in double figures as Thornton Academy (15-2) downed the Windham Eagles 77- 63 on Tuesday night.
Keohan finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds and senior Jack Tilley poured in 20 points while handing out seven assists as the Trojans pulled away from the pesky Eagles during a dominant third quarter stretch.
The Eagles (7-10) fought hard in the first quarter, forcing seven Trojan turnovers and shooting lights out from beyond the arc, leading to an 18-15 advantage after the first quarter.
Sophomore guard Nick Curtis led the Eagles, scoring 12 of his 19 points in the first half as the Eagles continued their hot shooting in the second period to maintain a one-point lead at halftime. Windham hit six 3-pointers in the first half, accounting for over half of the first half total.
Fittingly, on a night celebrating the Trojans’ senior players, guard Jack Tilley took over in the third quarter, scoring 11 points and handing out three assists to spark a Trojan comeback.
The Trojans finished the half with a 20-5 run keyed by Tilley’s relentlessness in the open floor. Tilley found junior forward John Fogg for two fast break layups in the third quarter, sparking Thornton Academy. Fogg finished with 17 points and seven rebounds in the game. The Trojans finished the third quarter with a 59-45 advantage over the Eagles.
The Trojans dominated on the boards, finishing with 35 total rebounds. Senior Corey Hart had an outstanding all-around game finishing with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
In the second half, Thornton Academy sunk seven of their nine free throw attempts, a dramatic improvement from the first half where Thornton Academy made just 3-of-10 foul shots. The Trojans finished the game shooting 53 percent from the charity stripe.
“In the second half we played a lot better defense. Controlling the defensive rebounds allowed our transition offense to happen,” said TA coach Bob Davies.
The Trojans round out the regular season on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they visit the rival Biddeford Tigers.
