WINDHAM 79, Massabesic 88: Windham High School traveled to Massabesic High School on Tuesday night to battle it out in a Maine AA High School Basketball Game. Massabesic came out swinging from the opening tip off to take a quick 14-2 lead. Windham took Massabesic’s best shot and fought back to close the gap to 20-16 after the first quarter. In the second quarter the Eagles took command with a 29 point quarter out burst lead by Gilman (11pts), Curtis (8pts) and Kilfoil (8pts) all having huge quarters to help take a 45-39 lead before an Amabile 3 at the buzzer cut Windham’s lead to 3, 45-42 going into halftime.
The second half Massabesic took advantage of costly turnovers, foul trouble and took a 12 point lead going into the fourth quarter with their own strong 3rd quarter of play. The fourth quarter was back and forth with Windham unable to get the stops needed. Foul shooting played a huge factor as Windham was only given 5 free throws for the entire game, making four. Massabesic on the other hand shot 20, making 15.
Sophomore Mike Gilman put on a shooting clinic for the Massabesic crowd netting 7 threes and pouring in 29 points. Nick Curtis continued his strong play by netting 5 threes and adding 21 points and 7 assists. Kyle Kilfoil had a strong performance with 15 points and Hunter Coffin added 8.
Windham’s continual improvement has them ready to make a push for a playoff spot in the last stretch of the season. Windham takes on Sanford High School at home Thursday.
